Entrust Energy files for bankruptcy protection in Houston after Winter Storm Uri

Houston-based Entrust Energy Inc. has joined a number of its fellow electricity retailers in the Bayou City’s bankruptcy court.

Entrust filed for Chapter 11 protections March 30 in the Southern District of Texas, more than a month after a freezing winter storm sent blackouts rolling across Texas and drove electricity prices to their maximum. While the company estimated that it has between $50 million and $100 million in debts, the company also listed a disputed claim by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas for $270.27 million in unsecured claims, according to court documents.
