Expect more conservation notices as ERCOT, PUC announce plans to overhaul Texas electricity market

The leaders of the Public Utility Commission and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas said Thursday they will start an effort to redesign how Texas’ electricity market works to provide incentives power generators to produce a more stable flow of electricity to Texas’ troubled electric grid.

But, they said, ERCOT will need to continue to ask Texans to conserve energy at times, especially as the state heads into the hottest part of summer in the coming weeks.

EDF Renewables plans $437M solar investment in Texas

France-based EDF Renewables is looking to build a 500-megawatt solar facility in Texas that would cost about $436.74 million.

The project, called Sandow Lakes Ranch Solar I, would build a solar farm with more than 1.2 million panels in Milam County, according to applications for tax incentives on the project. Sandow Lakes would be spread across two school districts — a relevant distinction for the purpose of the tax incentives — and it would create three new full-time jobs once complete.
