FirstEnergy nearly triples 3Q earnings

FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE:FE) nearly tripled its third-quarter earnings compared to a year ago thanks to higher sales margins and the company’s acquisition of Greensburg, Penn.-based Allegheny Energy, the Akron Beacon Journal reports. The Akron-based parent company of Ohio Edison reported third-quarter earnings of $509 million, or $1.22 a share, compared to $175 million, or 59 cents a share, last year, the newspaper reports.
