Electric Vehicles And Power Shortages

I keep reading about a shortage of electricity. How will this be resolved when more electric vehicles are on the road? Texas grid operator ERCOT called for limiting electric use for several days in a row. Will electric vehicle owners be able and willing to not charge when that happens?

Another question is road use taxes collected from gasoline and diesel sales to fund roads. I have not seen where electric vehicles are contributing to that fund.

A Book From My Past. What Does It Say About Today?

During the 1970 when I was almost finished going to the University of Cincinnati I bought a book that I still have today, A Radical’s Guide To Economic Reality, by Angus Black. At the time my mother-in-law thought this meant I was turning into a flower child hippy but that was not the case. This radical was an economic radical. Over several posts I will share my thoughts on each chapter and how it relates to our times today.

Its not a thick book in page count but the economics weigh heavy on our world today. Remember this book was published in 1970 but many of the chapters are familiar topics today. The chapters:

  • Big Business or Screw the Customer and Full Speed Ahead
  • Our Tax System – A Field Day for the Rich
  • The Draft or You Knew All Along that General Hersheybar Was Full of Stuff (my wording)
  • Hope for Dope
  • The Other America – How Not to Help It
  • Higher Education or Robin Hood Freaks Out
  • Inflation or Whom to Blame for the Rising Cost of Doing Your Thing
  • Why Can’t a Woman Be More Like a Man?
  • Unions, Exploitation, or Don’t Give Nottin’ to (I’m leaving this part out)
  • For Christ’s Sake, Stop Eating Grapes!
  • Automation, Technological Unemployment, and the Death of a Workingman
