Natural gas’ share of the ERCOT energy mix continues to fall: report

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas’ natural gas consumption continued to fall as the market share of coal continued an upward trend while power consumption in the region remained steady in November from the same month a year ago, according to data released Tuesday by the grid operator.

This marks the third straight monthly decline in natural gas usage and the third straight monthly increase in coal usage.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas board approved adding an administrative real-time settlement point price floor of negative $251/MWh, after learning ERCOT staff was behind the measure.

Nodal Protocol Revision Request 385 was approved with an 11-3 vote with one abstention at Tuesday’s ERCOT board meeting.
