Major U.S. utilities spending more on electricity delivery, less on power production

Major utility companies in the United States have been spending more on delivering electricity to customers and less on producing that electricity over the past decade.

Major utilities spent 4.3 cents per kilowatt hour in 2020, an increase of 65 percent over the 2.6 cents per kilowatt hour spent on electricity delivery in 2010, according to the Energy Department.
