Marketers want electricity, natural gas deals out of CFTC’s purview

Retail energy marketers are pushing to keep long-term fixed price electricity and natural gas contracts outside the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s jurisdiction.
In a letter sent Monday to the CFTC, Craig Goodman, president of the National Energy Marketers Association, wrote that these contracts — which marketers enter into with residential and commercial customers — should remain exempt from CFTC oversight, as the agency finalizes it new derivatives reform rules. …
